Effective date: 29 September 2026
1. Who is responsible
Studee is the controller of personal data described in this policy. Operator: [legal name]. Address: [postal address]. Privacy contact: [support email].
2. What Studee collects
Local app cache
The macOS app may keep a local cache so the interface stays fast. Studee Cloud is the primary store for new question records and practice attempts. Removing the local cache does not necessarily delete the cloud copy; use the privacy contact for an account-data deletion request.
Account and service data
- Your email address, account identifier, session information, and basic account metadata when you create or use a Studee account.
- The question image, note, session context, source URL, timing, difficulty feedback, and related text needed to safety-check and organise a new question.
- Your personal question records and practice-attempt history. Typed answers are sent for checking but are not stored in the community question record.
- Approved question images, answer keys, semantic-search embeddings, and generated topic metadata in the protected shared question bank. Your account identity, notes, and personal answers are not shown to other users receiving a bank question.
- Aggregated community statistics such as attempts, average time, success rate, and difficulty.
- Private moderation records, including a safety category, reason, strike count, and whether contributions are blocked. Rejected images and their raw content are not retained in the question bank.
- Subscription status and Stripe customer/subscription identifiers. Studee does not receive your full card number.
- Technical logs needed to secure, diagnose, and operate the service, such as request time, result status, and error details.
Website data
This website does not use advertising trackers or analytics cookies. The hosting provider may process ordinary access and security logs, including IP address, browser information, requested page, and timestamp.
3. Why the data is used
- To create and secure your account.
- To moderate and organise new questions and provide approved shared questions in relevant practice sets.
- To operate subscriptions, confirm access, prevent abuse, and provide support.
- To maintain reliability, investigate errors, and protect Studee and its users.
- To meet legal obligations and enforce the Terms.
Where the GDPR applies, processing is based on performing the service contract, legitimate interests in security and service improvement, consent where requested, and compliance with legal obligations.
4. Service providers and international transfers
Studee uses Appwrite for accounts, databases, storage, cloud functions, and semantic-search data; OpenRouter and the selected model provider for AI processing; Stripe for checkout, billing, and subscription management; and the website host for delivery of this site and downloads. These providers process data under their own terms and may process it outside Switzerland or your country. Appropriate contractual or legal transfer safeguards are used where required.
5. AI processing
AI processing begins when you submit a new question, request a practice set, search semantically, or check a typed answer. Relevant content is sent through Studee’s Appwrite function to OpenRouter and the selected model provider for safety classification, transcription, matching, or grading. Automated moderation and grading can be wrong. Unsafe classifications create a private account strike; three strikes block further shared-bank contributions. Contact [support email] to challenge a classification. Do not submit sensitive personal information or question images you do not have permission to use.
6. Retention
- Cloud study data: retained while your account is active and until deletion, subject to limited backup, security, dispute, or legal retention.
- Local cache: remains on your Mac until refreshed, deleted, or the app’s data is removed.
- Approved shared questions: retained while useful for the service or until removed following a valid request or rights complaint.
- Moderation records: retained as reasonably needed to prevent abuse, handle appeals, and protect users.
- Subscription records: kept for the periods required for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, and contract administration.
- Service logs: kept only as long as reasonably needed for security and troubleshooting.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a portable copy of eligible personal data, and may withdraw consent for future processing. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. Contact [support email] to make a request. Identity verification may be required.
8. Security
Studee uses authenticated cloud requests and server-only database and storage permissions for personal study, subscription, shared-question, answer-key, image, moderation, and administrator records. Administrator responses are checked against an Appwrite account role on the server. Other users receive only approved question content and community aggregates through the authenticated service and are not given direct database or bucket access. No system can guarantee absolute security, so keep your Mac account and Studee credentials protected.
9. Children
Studee is a study tool and may be used by students. If local law requires parental or guardian consent for a young person to create an online account or buy a subscription, that consent is required. Studee is not directed to children under 13.
10. Changes
This policy may change as the service develops. Material changes will be shown in the app or on this page, and the effective date will be updated.
